Yotsuba Koiwai is the green-haired girl who created 4chan’s identity.

Pulled from the 2003 manga Yotsuba&!, she was adopted by 4chan in its earliest days. Not as a meme or a joke — but as the quiet, default face of the site.

She appeared on XXX error pages, ban screens, and board banners. The site’s favicon — the four-leaf icon — was modeled after her pigtails. Even the name of 4chan’s source code, Yotsuba, came from her.

Before there were mascots like Pepe or Wojak, before there was a culture to even represent, Yotsuba was already there — defining the aesthetic and tone of early internet anonymity.
