Apu is to Pepe what Oreo is to Hydrox. 

Hydrox came before Oreo, but Oreo refined the formula, nailed the branding, and completely took over the cultural spotlight, so much so that most people think Hydrox is a knockoff. 

Same with Apu and Pepe. Pepe was the original frog meme, but Apu evolved it into something more emotionally resonant and community driven, especially in memes. 

It took the foundation and made it better, more relatable, and ultimately more iconic in its own lane
