Three were killed and several others injured when a tank shell fired from an Israel “Merkava” struck the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza City earlier today, leading to an outcry from the global community and calls for accountability from several major figures, including both Pope Leo XIV and U.S. President Trump. Since the incident, the Israel Defense Force has announced the start of a full investigation by the Defense Ministry, with them claiming that a preliminary investigation determined that shrapnel from a tank shell “inadvertently” struck the church during combat operations in Gaza.
