$DXY A weaker U.S. dollar may fundamentally benefit some areas of the stock market, but “it could also potentially drive higher import costs, pressure consumers and flow through to inflation,” according to a note Thursday from Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.

“Dollar weakness—implying that U.S. imports from abroad are more expensive than they would otherwise be—combined with an escalating tariff regime could raise the overall cost of importing goods,” investment strategist Monica Guerra at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management said in the note. “A weaker dollar has historically contributed to higher import price inflation with a two-to-three-month lag,” she said, pointing to the chart below.
