France hands over its last military bases in Senegal, marking end of 65-year presence in West Africa

France has officially transferred its remaining military bases in Senegal, completing the withdrawal of its forces from West Africa after XX years of military presence, France24 reports.

Senegal is not the first: since 2022, France has already pulled out of Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, and Gabon.
