"The U visa program is another example of a great idea gone terribly wrong through gross mismanagement and corruption. Envisioned as a law enforcement tool to protect bona fide alien crime victims, the U visa program is being exploited by fraudsters and criminal aliens, their attorneys, and corrupt law enforcement. The law allows aliens to qualify for U nonimmigrant status even if they entered the United States illegally, or have prior deportations, final orders of removal, and criminal convictions. Bad actors have every incentive to fabricate stories to get a U visa. USCIS is aware of several fraud and program integrity concerns commonly found within the U visa program, including: aliens staging crimes to obtain U visa law enforcement certifications, state and local law enforcement agencies “rubber stamping” U visa certifications, and aliens filing meritless U visa petitions to delay deportation and obtain employment authorization.

U visas are capped at XXXXXX annually by statute (not including derivative relatives). From FY 2017 to FY 2025 (Q2) USCIS received XXXXXXX principal U visa petitions. This means that if all U visa filings stopped today, it would take over XX years adjudicate the cases in the backlog. Since FY 2009, USCIS has seen a XXXXX% increase in pending cases.

Under the leadership of @POTUS and @Sec_Noem, USCIS has taken the handcuffs off our officers to pursue U visa fraudsters. This prosecution is just the tip of the iceberg." - @USCIS Spokesman Matthew J. Tragesser
