Data shows crypto accounts for a tiny fraction of tax evasion—likely under X% of global tax evasion—versus cash, which enables vast underreporting (e.g., US tax gap ~$600B/year, much cash-based). Chainalysis estimates illicit crypto flows at $41B in 2024, mostly not tax-related. Cash remains king for evaders. 

According to Chainalysis 2025 data, illicit crypto activity (incl. drugs & fraud) is ~0.14-0.4% of on-chain volume, with fraud ~$20B and darknet drugs ~$2B in 2024.

By contrast, global illicit finance in fiat (USD-heavy) exceeds $2T/year per UNODC, or 2-5% of GDP, with drug trade alone ~$500B mostly cash-based. Crypto's illicit use is a tiny fraction.
