Catholic Church in Gaza Hit in Israeli Airstrike

Israel has struck the Church of the Holy Family — the only Catholic church in Gaza.

According to ANSA, two people were killed and parish priest Gabriel Romanelli was wounded. Romanelli was considered a close ally of the late Pope Francis.

Pope Leo XIV has called for an immediate ceasefire and expressed condolences, with the Vatican calling the incident a tragedy.

Israeli authorities claim the church was not an intentional target.
