Adoption for the digital ruble is facing headwinds from privacy fears, bank resistance, and shaky trust, all of which could dampen momentum through 2026.  

Russians worry about state surveillance and losing transaction privacy, while rural areas remain skeptical due to internet issues—both factors that could lead to slow uptake outside big cities.  

Major banks aren’t exactly rolling out the red carpet, and their lukewarm stance could further stall integration if they don’t push the CBDC to clients.
