What is Stylus?

Stylus is an upgrade to Arbitrum Nitro (ArbOS 32), the tech stack behind Arbitrum One, Nova, and other @arbitrum chains.

It introduces a second virtual machine (VM) alongside the EVM, without replacing or changing anything. EVM contracts still work as usual. This additive design is called MultiVM.

With Stylus, developers can now write smart contracts in languages like Rust, C, or C++, compiled to WASM  which unlocks speed, flexibility, and lower costs.
