France has officially handed over its last military bases in Senegal, marking the end of a 65-year presence. 

Camp Geille, the largest French base in the country, and an airfield at Dakar airport were returned during a ceremony attended by French and Senegalese officials. 

The withdrawal, which began in March, reflects a broader trend of former African colonies distancing themselves from France. 

About XXX French troops, previously involved in joint operations with the Senegalese army, will complete their exit within three months
