When Alien came out, the Time magazine review mocked the mollusc-like monster and talked about how lame it was. I went to see Alien based on that review because even then - in 1979 - I knew not to trust them and a mollusc as villain sounded interesting. Lovecraft’s book “Supernatural Horror in Literature” is one long argument about why horror should be taken seriously, so it was prevalent then too. Stand up for what you love!
