Interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS approaches the Sun

Comet 3I/ATLAS was photographed by the Gemini North telescope. It is currently moving towards the Sun. It will come closest to it on October 29, 2025, passing perihelion at a distance of approximately XXX million km. This is already the third known object that has arrived from outside our solar system.

According to scientists, 3I/ATLAS may be several billion years older than the Solar System. Therefore, astronomers around the world are watching it with interest. As it approaches the Sun, more and more instruments will be directed at the comet to find out how it differs from “our” comets.
