“In 1952, a U.S. Air Force crew flying over the Pacific noticed people waving from a remote island. Wanting to help, they dropped supplies and gifts by parachute. What began as a spontaneous act of kindness became the start of a tradition known as Operation Christmas Drop. Over time, it grew into a large-scale humanitarian mission that delivers joy and essentials to communities spread across thousands of miles of ocean.

Every December, the U.S. Air Force partners with allies in the region to deliver donated food, clothing, books, toys, and supplies to over fifty remote islands in Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. The cargo is packed in boxes, attached to parachutes, and dropped from planes onto beaches and clearings. These areas are often unreachable by ship or other transport during the rainy season, making the airlift an essential part of the islanders' year.”
