Consumer stocks whip like this because to the upside, earnings can jump in massive steps when you have heat, and your marketing spend to generate that top line barely needs to move To the downside, there is no needed or structural floor on revenues, industry is littered with dead brands, so the terminal value gets discounted hard. Key question in these situations is not even "are they going to hit their bogeys", because eventually they will lap the weak comps if the brand survives, it is purely a question of "is the brand impaired". You can attack that as you like. $ANF way ahead of themselves last year, but I don't believe the brand is in trouble at all. I think they continue to do a great job on product.
