Yes, Turkey came to Somalia in 2011 with bread and blankets. But today, they are walking out with gold, oil, ports, airspace, and every ounce of economic sovereignty we still had left. What started as “brotherhood” has now become outright looting in broad daylight. Let’s call it what it is - neo-colonialism with a Somali face and Turkish hands. Ziraat Bank is not a development tool. It is a money laundering machine being used to siphon millions out of Somalia, propping up the most corrupt government in our history - one that is willing to sign away national resources in secret deals without parliamentary approval or public accountability. You can shout “Erdoğan Hospital!” all you want - one hospital doesn’t justify foreign control of our ports, bases, banks, and contracts. You don’t bribe MPs, build military bases, take over civil aviation, sign backdoor oil deals, and call that friendship. That’s not brotherhood. That’s occupation disguised as generosity. The so-called “training” of soldiers at TURKSOM - under whose command and for whose benefit? Are they protecting Somalia or enforcing a puppet state’s obedience to Ankara? Your statement is full of the same tired lines we’ve heard from every colonial administrator in African history - “We built your roads. We built your schools. We trained your people.” - while quietly looting everything of value and undermining democratic institutions. Somalis are not fools. We are wide awake. And we will not be lectured by foreign-funded spin doctors trying to dress up exploitation as partnership. So yes, I absolutely agree with Prof. Abdi Samatar: Turkey has transformed from a helping hand into a controlling fist. And the Somali people are under no obligation to stay silent while our nation is bought, bribed, and bled dry. Turkey didn’t “save” us. They set up shop - and now they’re cashing out.
