"unlocking human potential through financial inclusion."

i had been putting off this research for quite a while, and finally found time for it. i looked at pact through a lens that you may not have seen yet. don’t judge this longread by its opening - @pactconsortium brings real value to the @aptos ecosystem, and i’m grateful for that.

i fundamentally disagree with the ideological foundation of the project - they place the lower levels of maslow’s hierarchy at the top, if i can put it that way. essentially, they’re trying to become a tool that allows people to rapidly leap across levels that are nearly impossible to skip - if it’s even possible at all. pact positions itself as a solution to deep-rooted problems, but these problems can’t be solved - and in many cases, they aren’t even problems, just realities:

X. the poor get poorer.
X. the divide between economies and their geographies keeps growing.
X. access to the system is primarily linked to the risk of integration.

a solution that contradicts the very nature of a problem can’t fix it - imho. the noble goal pact is pursuing - giving unbanked populations access to finance through defi - is utopian. it’s precisely because of the risks tied to that same system that these people don’t gain access. defi is just a front - both in the centralized and decentralized world. the game won’t rewrite itself to reconsider the nature of risk. it’s a natural law.

it all comes down to liquidity - will pact attract the liquidity needed to support its noble goal?

still, locally and with high risk, pact is working - and more importantly, it’s working in favor of aptos. that’s undeniably a win. we aim for leadership in payments and rwa, and protocols like pact - despite the ideological crisis behind them - show us that aptos’ broader goals can be implemented. the point of this longread is to emphasize how important it is to evaluate a project’s ideological foundation too. in XX% of cases, the ideals are utopian and likely won’t function the way they’re presented. pact is the leading rwa player on aptos - that’s a fact. pact is expanding aptos into new markets, and we should be thankful for that - but let’s not fool ourselves into believing we can achieve the impossible.
