The move is part of a major restructuring to streamline its generative AI operations, according to Scale spokesperson Joe Osborne. CEO @jdroege confirmed the internal shake-up in an email viewed by The Verge, stating, “We ramped up our GenAI capacity too quickly over the past year... this approach created inefficiencies and redundancies.” The company will now consolidate XX GenAI pods into five core areas: code, languages, experts, experimental, and audio. Scale also plans to reorganize its go-to-market strategy under a new “demand generation” team, focusing efforts on winning back clients who have slowed engagement. “We created too many layers, excessive bureaucracy, and unhelpful confusion about the team’s mission,” Droege admitted. Despite the layoffs, Scale says it's still “well-resourced, well-funded,” and plans to hire “hundreds of new employees” across enterprise, public sector, and international roles in late 2025. “We’re streamlining our data business to help us move faster and deliver even better data solutions to our GenAI customers,” said Osborne.
