🚨| Ferrari is working on the power steering: interventions to solve problems:

— During the British Grand Prix, Ferrari drivers faced issues with the power steering system, which showed inconsistent feedback and response, complicating the interpretation of limits and curve modulation. This problem notably affected Leclerc and Hamilton.

— The electro-hydraulic power steering system in F1 uses a hydraulic vane pump driven by an engine. It features a servo-assisted cylinder and a rotating valve controlled by a torsion bar, adjusting fluid direction and amount based on driver-applied torque.

— At Silverstone, the demanding track conditions may have caused misalignment between suspension kinematics and power steering calibration. Rapid load changes could alter feedback, especially if the system isn't calibrated to handle these transitions.

— The power steering's performance is influenced by steering pivot geometry, hub offset, caster, and suspension stiffness. Micro flexions in these components can cause a feeling of "play" or torque variation, even if wheel directionality remains correct.

— Engineers can optimize power steering by adjusting assistance force based on car speed, typically using a descending curve for precision on straights and lighter weight at low speeds. Mapping of the couple and sensitivity to steering angle are also adjustable.

— Ferrari's issues were noted in slow curves, but even in fast corners, performance could have been better. The steering configuration remains a crucial variable for improving driver-car interaction, with adjustments planned for the Belgian Grand Prix.

— The Belgian Grand Prix offers a chance to recalibrate the power steering system. Ferrari aims to test different hydraulic assistance curves, ensuring consistency and predictability during curve maneuvers, addressing limitations seen at Silverstone.
