Haas: why the new simulator with Toyota is a priority:

— Haas is prioritizing the development of a proprietary simulator, a project significantly supported by Toyota's expertise. The team believes that enhancing race weekend preparation through this simulator is crucial to closing the gap with top teams. The simulator's importance is expected to increase in 2026, as drivers will need to manage energy more independently.

— Andrea De Zordo, Haas' technical director, discussed the simulator's development during the Austrian Grand Prix. He explained that the collaboration with Toyota is primarily focused on TPC tests and developing their own simulator.

“At the moment, the relationship with Toyota is mainly focused on TPC tests and on the development of our own simulator. It's something we don't have and it can be important for us in terms of preparing for the races.”

“If you arrive at a race weekend with a good simulator session, you are better prepared from the start. You can start right away with the correct set-up and make better use of the driver. It's something we're missing at the moment.”

— De Zordo emphasized that maximizing the package's potential is key to a team's competitiveness.

“Now we are a bit late from the front, but what exactly is the reason? I don't think it's just our performance, I think it's a combination of factors. Perhaps one of these is that by simply starting the weekend better, you can leave the driver free to concentrate to find confidence in the car rather than spending time looking for the right set-up or balance.”

“Having a simulator with which to work well and continuously could be a great thing for us.”

— The upcoming regulations will make a proprietary simulator even more crucial, according to De Zordo. The new rules will require drivers to manually manage energy, similar to Formula E, making simulator preparation vital.

“With the new regulations next year, preparation for the simulator may be even more important than today. [...] I think that the preparation of the starting drivers will also be important.”
