When Satoshi Nakamoto launched Bitcoin in January 2009, he included a simple but symbolic logo in the early versions of the Bitcoin Core client (v0.1). This logo was a gold coin marked with the letters “BC”, meant to visually signal that Bitcoin was money. 

This logo was displayed in the top left of the very first client - today it is reborn with $BC.
