But after nuclear testing began, all modern steel became slightly radioactive due to atmospheric fallout.

🔬 For decades, scientists sourced “low-background steel” from: – WWI & WWII shipwrecks
– Pre-1945 hospital & factory equipment

Modern radiation detectors, space telescopes, and sensitive medical instruments required it.
