They also had considerably brighter and more intellectually engaged residents. Even though the character of these towns tends to be somewhat different today than it was before the 00s — for example, the cost of living is usually higher (often fueled by wealthy alums returning to live there in their retirement) — towns like Charlottesville, Chapel Hill, Boulder, and Ann Arbor are still good places to live.
