At the same time, BCCI helped Saddam Hussein, funneling millions of dollars to the Atlanta branch of the Italian government-owned Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (BNL), Baghdad's U.S. banker, so that from 1985 to 1989 it could make four billion dollars in secret loans to Iraq to help it buy arms. Osama bin Laden, the founder of al-Qaeda, was initially involved with the Afghan mujahideen during the Soviet-Afghan War and he was trained by the American government to fight Russian forces and arms was given to the mujahideen by both America and Israel. Bin Laden co-founded Maktab al-Khidmat (MAK), which recruited foreign fighters from the Afghan mujahideen and other jihadist and raised money for the insurgency. In 1988, he split from MAK and formed al-Qaeda, a multinational Muslim alliance focused on jihad. After the Soviet withdrawal and the end of the war, Bin Laden shifted al-Qaeda's focus to opposing Israel and the West, particularly the United States. Even after leaving Afghanistan, Bin Laden maintained ties with the country and continued to use it as a base for al-Qaeda's operations. All this information is very well documented. However I am not sure if anyone knows that Danny Casolaro was investigating this event because he did not complete the investigation before his death. I don't know if anyone else knows this but I just found out by cross referencing some data. This event goes back to the Democrat party. Democrats bypassed Congress through a back door and Charlie Wilson, CIA, and many others were involved with this event!
