Event: Sino-Japanese Peace & Friendship Treaty.

Interestingly, the USSR and Vietnam were enemies of China at that time! 

The Chinese feared that Vietnam was the “catspaw” of the Soviet Union and was planning to take over Laos and Cambodia.

So, along with the US, China supported Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot.
