The U.S. Navy will construct two facilities in Oyster Bay and Quezon town, Palawan province, to maintain and repair Philippine military boats. 

Located opposite the South China Sea, where Philippine and Chinese coast guard clashes have intensified, Palawan is home to the Philippine military’s Western Command, which operates navy patrol ships, surveillance vessels, and aircraft to safeguard the nation’s territorial claims in the region, largely contested by Beijing.
