Here’s my final take on the whole U.S. government Bitcoin holdings situation:

I’ve been tracking certain addresses believed to be linked to U.S. government holdings just like many others in the space. Since there’s been no recent on-chain movement, the assumption is that none of the BTC has been sold.

However, multiple sources, including @DavidFBailey, have pointed out that a custodian may be facilitating swaps on behalf of certain entities, allowing the coins to change hands without leaving an on-chain footprint. The only custodian I can think of that’s large enough to handle something like this is Coinbase.

If that’s truly what’s happening, then all the on-chain tracking we’ve been doing, mine included, might not matter anymore.
