Do Supplements Work for Depression? Some Do, Study Says

A large-scale review of XXX clinical trials assessed XX over-the-counter (OTC) products for depression, ranging from well-known remedies like St John’s Wort to lesser-known options.

While St John’s Wort, saffron, probiotics, and vitamin D showed the strongest evidence of benefit, omega-3s had mixed results.

Emerging evidence suggests that folic acid, lavender, zinc, and lemon balm could also help, though more research is needed.

Many other popular supplements lacked sufficient data or showed inconsistent findings.

Importantly, very few safety concerns were reported, but professional guidance is still advised due to potential interactions.

This work highlights both promising candidates and the need for more rigorous studies on widely used OTC remedies for depression.
