U.S. small-cap companies were quietly leading the market on Wednesday afternoon, as the three major stock indexes were mostly treading water after President Donald Trump said it is "highly unlikely" that he'll fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

The Russell 2000 index was rising XXX% as of 2:20 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, while the large-cap S&P XXX was up less than 0.1%, leaving it nearly flat at around 6,249, according to FactSet data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was popping over XXX points, or 0.3%, to trade near XXXXXX. The Nasdaq Composite was nearly flat, according to FactSet. $IWM $TNA $RUT
