During World War II, the Nazis often claimed to "protect" certain ethnic minorities like the Slovaks, Ukrainians, and Croats—but this was never about genuine care or rights. Instead, it was a cold, calculated tactic to divide and conquer.

By presenting themselves as defenders of these groups, the Nazis aimed to drive wedges between ethnic communities, weaken unified resistance, and secure local collaborators to enforce their brutal regime. For example, they backed the Slovak puppet state to break apart Czechoslovakia, supported Ukrainian nationalists to undermine Soviet and Polish control, and installed the Ustaše regime in Croatia to fuel ethnic cleansing against Serbs.

This so-called protection was just a smokescreen for manipulation. The Nazis exploited ethnic tensions to maintain control and push their genocidal agenda, proving that their “defense” of minorities was nothing more than a strategy to serve their ruthless goals.

Any similarity to current situations is purely coincidental.
