Tariffs are the best way to pay for the debt. We always had a surplus during the protectionist days to the point Congress didn’t know what to do with it. Well we have $XX trillion in debt! With current tariffs, we’ll get $XXX billion annually. That’s already over XX% of the deficit and we’re going to have more later on.
