$SPY President Donald Trump on Wednesday offered assurances that he won’t try to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, following a report that he was likely to do exactly that.

“I don't rule out anything, but I think it's highly unlikely,” Trump told reporters at the White House in response to a question about whether he would try to oust Powell. Trump also said he’s “not talking about” firing the current Fed chief and commented that “fortunately, we get to make a change” and “pick somebody that's good," as Powell’s term is due to end in May
