A study from the University of Rochester’s Wilmot Cancer Institute links taurine, a common energy drink ingredient, to increased leukemia growth by fueling cancer cells through glycolysis.

Taurine, naturally produced in the body and added to drinks like Red Bull, is shown to accelerate cancer progression in mice via the SLC6A6 gene, which transports taurine to tumors.

The research, published in Nature, suggests taurine may also impact other cancers like colorectal, raising concerns about energy drink consumption.
