Wonder why?
Because lightning invoices alone LEAK a ton of metadata👇

⚡️BOLT XX Invoice Metadata Leaks

* 📌 Amount (in sats or BTC)

  * Reveals how much is being paid (unless it’s a “zero amount” invoice)

* 🧑‍💻 Recipient’s Node Public Key

  * Fully exposed and linkable across multiple invoices

* ⏱ Timestamp

  * Shows exact time the invoice was created, allows timing correlation

* 🧾 Description / Memo

  * Often human readable (e.g., “coffee”, “donation”) reveals purpose

* 🧭 Routing Hints(if included)

  * Can expose private channels and payment routes, network topology leak

* ⏳ Expiry Time

  * Shows how long the invoice is valid, usually X hour by default

* 🔐 Payment Hash (Invoice ID)

  * Unique identifier, can be used to track if/when it was paid

* 🧬 Repeated Use of Invoices or Keys

  * Linkable if reused, helps build identity fingerprints

🔚 Summary:

 Even though Lightning is “off chain,” BOLT XX invoices are not private.
 They leak who, how much, when, and, why  often enough to deanonymize users.

BOLT XX adds privacy in this area but TODAY there are almost X wallet providers that use BOLT XX.
Almost all major providers are still using BOLT XX.
