There are two sides to this coin. Manchester United aspect is that Brentford have acted in bad faith, by presenting acceptable terms then deciding that is no longer acceptable to them once the bid was made.

Brentford's perspective is that they can do whatever they want with their asset & United should've acted faster to close the deal if outside factors (such as other related transfer fees) made them change their mind.

It's frustrating to be so financially stricken that they don't have the flexibility to just be able to pay more favourable terms, whether it's up front, guaranteed fee or add-ons. So close, but not close enough.
