RICE STOCKS PILING UP — "NO WAY OUT," SAYS NFA HEAD

On #AtTheForefront with Atty. Karen Jimeno, NFA Administrator Larry Lacson said the Rice Tariffication Law of 2019 turned the agency into a buffer-stocking unit, only allowed to release rice during calamities or emergencies.

With warehouses reaching capacity, Lacson warns that rice—being perishable—is at risk of spoilage. 

“There’s also a legal option to auction off aging stocks,” he said, hinting that the NFA will begin doing so soon.
