ASX record high as tech rallies: new Rio CEO

The Australian sharemarket posted a solid gain on Tuesday, with the S&P/ASX XXX adding XXX per cent to close at a record high of XXXXXXX points. DroneShield rose XXXX per cent to $3.72, Paladin Energy was up XXX per cent at $XXXX and Appen advanced seven per cent to $XXXX. Bets on bitcoin hitting $US200k

The price of bitcoin has risen by XX per cent so far in 2025, reaching a record high of $US123,205 on Monday. The cryptocurrency's latest rally has coincided with the US Congress's debate on a series of bills that are intended to boost regulatory support for digital assets. VanEck Australia has forecast that the price of bitcoin will top $US180,000 by the end of 2025, while Global X expects it to top $U200,000. Spanish energy giant pulls the plug on offshore wind project

The Victorian government's commitment to offshore wind power is under scrutiny following BlueFloat Energy's decision to cancel its proposed Gippsland Dawn project. The Spain-based group is said to have chosen not to proceed with the project after failing to find a buyer for it. Offshore wind projects have faced many challenges in Australia and globally, and some have been delayed or cancelled in Europe and the US. The Victorian government has set an initial target of two gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2032, which it aims to increase to 9GW by 2040. (RMS)

Qantas hack sparks scam high alert

Qantas recently advised that a 'potential' cyber criminal has made contact with the airline in the wake of the cyber attack on a customer service platform in Manila. Qantas has indicated that it has yet to receive a ransom demand, while no personal data of the XXX million affected customers has been released on the 'dark web' to date. Satnam Narang from US-based cybersecurity firm Tenable warns that 'social engineering' scams may be the biggest risk to Qantas customers whose data has been compromised. He says given that phone numbers were exposed in the hack, affected customers may be targeted with SMS-based scams. (RMS)
