As part of Minister Blade Nzimande’s official visit to Tunisia, both governments signed a comprehensive agreement to deepen STI collaboration. This includes key initiatives such as joint research programs, academic exchange, knowledge sharing, and coordinated participation in international platforms. During the signing ceremony, Tunisia’s Minister Mondher Belaid and South Africa’s Minister Nzimande delivered powerful keynote remarks, reflecting on the deep historical connection forged during their countries’ shared anti-colonial struggles. Minister Nzimande emphasized the value of regional cooperation in navigating global challenges and reaffirmed support for the African Union's STISA framework. This agreement seeks to develop practical solutions to pressing continental issues such as youth unemployment, food sovereignty, healthcare, water and energy security, climate change, and digital innovation. The visit also celebrated diplomatic efforts, with Ms. Hasna Tizaoui of the Tunisian Embassy in South Africa receiving a Science Diplomacy award for her contribution to bilateral relations. Minister Nzimande’s delegation included officials from prominent South African science institutions like the CSIR, TIA, NRF, and Mintek, signaling South Africa's serious commitment to this strategic partnership.
