Kind of reminded me of Australia’s energy debate. The renewables lobby has been so successful with stakeholder management it should be studied at Harvard. A cult-like devotion to renewables has been cult-ivated. Energy policy is being driven more by vibes than physics (Green hydrogen is a slam dunk case in point). If you question renewables; you are labelled a RWNJ, a climate denier, or a nuke-bro. Minister Bowen won’t even consider nuclear—despite the global renaissance—because it doesn’t fit his narrative. He won’t lift the non-sensical ban on nuclear – if nuclear won’t work here – what does he have to lose? And yet we’re planning offshore wind which even CSIRO says will be ridiculously expensive and despite a litany of developers pulling out. Why? Because it feels right. We need a rational, inclusive discussion - one that treats renewables, nuclear, gas, hydro, and (god forbid!) – coal life extensions as tools to be leveraged alongside each other to deliver plentiful, low cost energy to fuel our electric future. And, no, Chris did not sit for a Labubu picture – he is far too busy increasing power prices for every day Australians, albeit trying to make us feel good about it at the same time.
