2024: $12.1B rev $5.07B payroll XXXX%
2025: $12.5B (projected rev) $5.19B (projected payroll) XXXX% (projected split of revenue)

2012 is a line of demarcation in the process, so what happened between 2011 and 2012?

increased playoffs with addition of wild card team after the 2011 season saw both leagues have historic wild card chases down to the final day of the season.
in 2012, one wild card team was added, bringing the total to X wild card teams in each league.

The extra playoff spot led to increased interest and higher attendance league wide.
baseball also saw significant rises in its rights fees at the local level, and saw significant revenue from MLB Advanced Media and the MLB At Bat app in 2012.

but payrolls never again reached the 50/50 split range of 2011 (except for the covid year which is obviously an outlier)

MLB found ways to additionally monetize their product (the players) without sharing that additional revenue with them.

#MLBPA should call the owners on their desire for a salary cap and push the 50/50 split and XX% floor and watch the owners scramble like roaches when the light comes on.

they will have backed the owners into a corner that they will have a very difficult time getting out of.
