It’s clear that Alexander Isak’s agent has fuelled today’s developments almost single-handedly, by the way. And he won’t be doing that without a request from his client, which hurts to admit.

Still believe that nothing will happen this summer unless the player himself formally requests to leave, which would give #NUFC little choice but to sell for the right price, around £130m perhaps. Would also give the club a viable reason to let him go without serious fan backlash.

Ultimately, it depends entirely on Isak at this stage. Would absolutely love him to stay one more season, but we shouldn’t begrudge him if he does choose to move on for a new challenge at #LFC after everything he’s done for us. Ideally, though, we’d retain him for another year then sell abroad for a significant profit, with multiple European giants likely to be in the running next summer.

In terms of his potential successor in Hugo Ekitike, you wouldn’t be surprised if he’s waiting to see how things pan out before making what is a crucial decision in his career. Whispers are that he’d prefer a move to Liverpool regardless - and if we take emotional bias out of things, that isn’t a huge surprise.

Feels like the next few days are crucial, and I’d imagine that everyone at Newcastle will have a better idea of the whole situation by the end of this week…
