“The files” is a red herring. What’s in question is whether Epstein’s operation was actually investigated beyond the scope of his personal activities enabled by Maxwell. It apparently was not. “We found no evidence” usually means “We did not look for evidence.” 

All the current drama and finger pointing is a distraction from that simple question, for which no one in the government or mass media is calling for an answer, while the public is herded by the influencers.
