Stolen Hilux Recovered Near Zimbabwe Border, Suspect Arrested

A stolen Toyota Hilux worth over R700,000 was recovered in Mokopane on XX July 2025, just hours before it could be smuggled into Zimbabwe.

A 34-year-old suspect was arrested after being caught driving the vehicle, which was reported stolen two days earlier in Pretoria.

Acting on intelligence, the Limpopo Anti-Smuggling Task Team and private security intercepted the vehicle along the R101 — a known smuggling route.

The suspect, who couldn’t explain why he had the vehicle, was arrested on the spot.

Police believe the Hilux was linked to a larger vehicle smuggling syndicate.

Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe praised the swift and coordinated operation.
