The rollout follows the Pentagon awarding xAI more than XXX million dollars in new defense AI work, part of a larger contract pool that also tapped Google and Anthropic. xAI products are now on the General Services Administration schedule, making them easier for federal departments to purchase directly. Grok for Government aims to be an in house alternative to rivals such as OpenAI and Palantir. The suite will offer classified and unclassified models on secure U.S. cloud infrastructure, with on prem options for intelligence agencies and the military’s Joint All Domain Command and Control effort. The deal has already drawn scrutiny. Senator Elizabeth Warren pressed the Pentagon on safeguards, citing potential conflicts with Musk’s other ventures. Musk has hinted at merging xAI with Tesla and SpaceX, and SpaceX has reportedly invested more than two billion dollars in the AI startup. For xAI, the contract brings both revenue and credibility as federal agencies race to adopt trustworthy generative AI.
