Today, we marked an important milestone in Everglades restoration—the opening of the C-43 Reservoir in Hendry County. This 10,000-acre site has capacity to store nearly XX billion gallons of water, capturing excess runoff from Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding watershed during the rainy season and releasing it strategically during the dry season.

The fully operational reservoir will protect the Caloosahatchee Estuary from harmful discharges and ensure a healthy balance of fresh and salt water, which is essential for fisheries, oyster beds, and seagrasses. Conserving our natural resources is key to our state’s continued prosperity, and I’m proud that the C-43 Reservoir will improve water quality in Southwest Florida for generations to come.
