Speaking ahead of the British Grand Prix, he emphasized the support from FOM and teams: “To us, the V8 is happening. With the teams now, I'm very optimistic, happy about it.” “FOM [Formula X Management] are supporting, the teams are realising it is the right way.” — Ben Sulayem acknowledged potential cost implications due to rising fuel prices, suggesting a hybrid solution might be necessary: “We need to do it soon. You need three years, so hopefully by 2029 we have something there, but the fuel is also very expensive, and we have to be very careful with that. Transmissions are very expensive.” “The current engine is so complicated, you have no idea, and it is costly. R&D is reaching $XXX million, and the engine is costing approximately $XXX million to $XXX million, so if we go with a straight V8, let's see.” — He argued that V8 engines would be more cost-effective and commercially viable, given their prevalence in road cars: “Many of the manufacturers produce V8s in their cars, so commercially it's correct. How much is it? The target is more than XX percent [cheaper] in everything.” — Ben Sulayem also expressed openness to adding a 12th team to the F1 grid, despite potential resistance from existing teams. He stressed the importance of any new team adding value to the sport: “The time will come when we feel it is right to open and expression of interest. We are not here to upset other teams. It won't be just go and do it for the sake of doing it.” “It has to be worth it for us. The team has to add value to sustaining the business of Formula 1.” #fia 🇫🇷 VIA: [motorsportweek] XXX engagements **Related Topics** [prix](/topic/prix) [grand prix](/topic/grand-prix) [british grand prix](/topic/british-grand-prix) [f1](/topic/f1) [formula 1](/topic/formula-1) [Post Link](https://x.com/ThisIsFormu1a1/status/1945150724989665741)
