GIP's new fund just closed w/ $25.5B AUM bringing total AUM to $170B - they already know the name well - Golar's current 17bn of EBITDA backlog and growing to $28B late this year would be a "low risk" way of putting a chunk of capital to work while also gaining expertise in FLNG (accepted & growing technology) plus they get a call option on commodity upside. Lastly and very importantly GLNG belongs in the hands of a very smart financially savvy player with large balance sheet and access to capital....GIP can back-leverage assets to take their cash equity off the table in a short time frame and drive extremely high IRRs while growing its low carbon energy transition portfolio...
