If this had been the framing from the beginning, I don’t think it would have been as poorly received.

“I disagree with Trump/Bondi’s decision not to release the files, but I still support Trump, and his administration is still doing amazing things” is far more palatable and less insulting than a sudden reversal to “No one is interested in the Epstein file, move on and stop asking about it”.

People might still be pissed, even the most sincere Trump supporters. But at least they’re intelligence and dignity would not have been insulted.
