German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius stated yesterday in Washington that Germany has delivered a letter of request to the U.S. Department of Defense, requesting the ability to purchase the “Typhon” Strategic Mid-Range Fires System (SMRF), which is a ground-based launcher able to fire both the “Tomahawk” Land-Attack Cruise Missile (TLAM) and the Standard Missile X (SM-6). The purchase of such a system would allow Germany to launch deep strikes into Russia, as far as Moscow, in the case of a full-scale conflict in Europe.
