🇸🇪 The Isak Illusion: Newcastle’s Grip Might Be Slipping

Liverpool’s admiration for Alexander Isak has never been secret, but now, according to Ornstein and Romano, it’s official. A conversation, not a bid, but the point has been made. #LFC want him badly, and are prepared to break the bank again to do it. That should not be taken lightly.

#NUFC's public stance is unyielding. Isak is not for sale. Privately, that position holds only if Isak himself stays content. If a move to Anfield speaks louder than his future prospects on Tyneside, then things shift quickly.

The numbers do not flatter him; they confirm what our eyes already knew. Isak is a thoroughbred striker who has flourished in England. XX goals in XXX appearances, XX last season. He is not a maybe. He is the real thing.

Some will point to Hugo Ekitike as reinforcement. The Frenchman has talent, a touch of pedigree, but not the same authority in the box or record in this league. Newcastle are not signing him to play both together, no matter what their fans may proclaim. Two No 9s in their system is a fantasy and would be a tactical crime by Eddie Howe. Something has to give, and it will.

This is not to say a deal is close. It is not. But Liverpool have made their move with intent and patience. They know this would take more than money. They also know that bringing Isak in means finding a new home for Darwin Núñez, and they are working on that too.

It is no insult to Newcastle to recognise what’s unfolding here. This isn’t the end of the storm, it’s the breath it takes before it hits harder.
